The Crochet Club aims to attract additional members while also reflecting on past projects
The Crochet Club, established last year, has quickly become a notable entity in the realm of crafting, thanks to the initial vision of former senior Bella Field. The club is now co-led by Mrs. Mcgilvery and Mrs. Frazier, with a small but dedicated membership that includes club leader Sophia Harvey, who assists other members with crocheting. Within the club, members engage in a variety of crafting activities, discussing both current and future projects, such as creating small throw blankets.
Additionally, during the seasons and holidays, the Crochet Club has established a tradition of making scarves for the nonprofit Fauquier Fish organization during Christmas, as well as crocheting hearts for Valentine’s Day and, more recently, chickens in the fall. These initiatives promote creativity and as well as provide a unique experience that members find valuable. For instance, Harley Mitchell noted her improvement in crocheting skills through the chicken project, stating, “It is my favorite because it was my first actual project that we did. I didn’t know how to make animals and everything, but now I do from learning.”
Moreover, alongside the various projects, the club supplies yarn, needles, and crochet hooks during their weekly meetings every Thursday. Founder Mrs. Mcgilvery emphasizes the benefits of utilizing online resources to enhance crocheting skills, highlighting the accessible tutorials. She remarked, “There are so many tutorials online that are easy to watch and understand how to do it. Even if I am learning a new stitch, I go online, watch somebody doing a little swatch, and I can keep replaying that until I learn the stitch.”
Ultimately, The Crochet Club represents a beneficial and supportive opportunity for individuals to acquire creative skills within a welcoming community. This environment not only fosters a genuine commitment to crocheting interests but also encourages others to consider pursuing similar paths by joining the club.
