Kettle Run High School has an exciting new club!
The MSA stands for Modern Student Arabica and Muslim Student Association. The club meets every Wednesday during Cougar Block in Room 466, and everyone is welcome to join. This organization aims to educate and foster a sense of community within the school.
Tara Nirosh, one of the founding members, shared that the idea for this club stemmed from not knowing many Muslims at Kettle Run. She believed there was a need for a space where everyone could feel included and have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and beliefs.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is considered a holy month for Muslims worldwide. It is a time dedicated to fasting, prayer, community, and charity.
Here’s what each of these pillars involves:
- Fasting: Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset.
- Prayer: Time is spent in spiritual reflection and prayer, often in congregation with others.
- Community: Muslims gather for events and prayers, emphasizing unity and togetherness.
- Charity: Giving, such as feeding the hungry or paying obligatory charity to the poor, is central to Ramadan.
Why Do Muslims Observe Ramadan?
- To purify their hearts
- To renew their faith
- To seek forgiveness
- To develop self-discipline
- To focus on what truly matters
Why It’s Important to Learn About Ramadan
Understanding Ramadan is just one way we can celebrate diversity and foster inclusivity in our school community. Educating ourselves about different cultures helps us grow as individuals and as a community.
The best way to learn? Get involved! Consider joining the MSA to connect with peers and broaden your perspective. Please join MSA in their Eid Celebration on April 2nd, during all lunch shifts.
